16th & 17th November Weekend Round Up

17th November: Star of the Sea juniors flourish at National Cross Country Championships

Another day, Another national medal – actually 5 national medals!  The National  Inter County Cross Country Championships where held in Santry Demesne this Sunday. The large crowds and great atmosphere around the course, led to some great performances by Star of the Sea athletes.  The Junior mens race was the race of the day for Star of the Sea supporters, with three athletes competing. Andrew Coscoran, Robert Tully Jnr., and Kieran Bowers took to the start line as part of the Meath 6 man team. The race was not only the national championship but also the qualifying race for the upcoming European Cross Country Championships in Serbia. With this in mind, Andrew Coscoran knew he had to give it his all to try and gain a spot on the Irish Team. Andrew crossed the finish line taking the bronze national junior medal- a position that we hope will be good enough to gain an Irish Team spot (team announced Monday 25th November).  Robert Tully had a fine race to finish 9th Junior  while Kieran Bowers took 20th position. Andrew, Robert & Kieran were the first three Meath men across the line also and lead the Meath Team to the silver medal.  In the Senior Mens race, SOS’s favourite cross country slugger Eoin Callaghan, still feeling the effects of the Dublin City Marathon, finished the 10km distance in 66th position. Kieran Peters, also part of the Meath Team, finished 93rd. Congrats to all our SOS guys. Also a special mention to Ciara Rooney of Navan A.c., who trains with us, who finished 9th in the Junior girls race.
